Este es un texto de Daniel Catarino para o Beats Play Free, esta en Portugués pero llevo fié que lo puedes intender.

Perdido no labiríntico mundo das netlabels

Num mundo onde as televisões se gabam por ter maior quota de audiências, em que os programas mais vistos são telenovelas, galas de famosos e outros semelhantes no conteúdo, que esperar de um fenómeno como o das netlabels?

Primeiro que tudo, não o posso considerar um “fenómeno”, antes um mote de união de várias pessoas que, por todo o lado, apregoam a mobilidade da música independente, daquela que não tem espaço nos canais vulgares de divulgação. Se fosse um fenómeno, estaríamos – todos os relacionados com o movimento – empregados, a receber o equivalente monetário ao trabalho que desenvolvemos, apesar de toda a gratuitidade do processo.

Provavelmente muitos não concordam com esta minha opinião, mas a verdade é que da composição à gravação, da edição à divulgação, da construção e manutenção de sites ao design de capas, logos, posters, há muito trabalho envolvido, que acaba por ser pouco ou nada recompensado, seja monetariamente ou no número de interessados (que ainda assim cresce exponencialmente). Não sou um estudioso do “fenómeno”, sou mais um “aproveitador”. Muitos como eu fazem música que não me parece superior ou inferior à maioria dos que ganham dinheiro com a sua edição, e das capas aos posters, das críticas aos sites, não consigo vislumbrar grandes diferenças de qualidade. Já existem inclusive álbuns gratuitos com melhor qualidade de som que álbuns que vendem milhares no formato cd (não é o meu caso, obviamente).

Num sistema – alias, num mundo (deixemos estas teorias da conspiração para os filósofos futebolísticos) que fosse justo, o trabalho de todas estas pessoas seria devidamente recompensado. Seja em dinheiro, reconhecimento da sua qualidade ou interesse das pessoas. Porque me parece justo que a música seja gratuita para os consumidores, mas ao mesmo tempo não me parece justo que estes não recompensem aqueles que lhes estão a oferecer um produto de sua livre vontade. E quanto ao interesse, sabemos bem que o entretenimento fácil, aquele que é produzido com mera intenção comercial e nula visão artística, sempre será mais apelativo que qualquer forma de arte que pressuponha um qualquer envolvimento cerebral do consumidor final.

As netlabels podem ser vistas, na minha opinião, como um novo artista que recebe repentinamente algum sucesso com um álbum de estreia e fica na indecisão de que via a tomar: continuar pobre mas a fazer a música que gosta, ou agarrar-se a estereótipos comerciais e musicais que lhe permitam maior visibilidade e encaixe financeiro? Se a primeira opção não lhe fornecer qualquer tipo de recompensa, acabará por morrer à fome, e aí certamente que nem música fará. Por outro lado, a segunda opção leva a um abismo musical ainda maior, triturando lentamente o lado criativo e artístico, escrevendo canções em cartões Multibanco, em vez do piano ou da guitarra.

Sim, a música deve ser gratuita. Mas também deve ser valorizada como música pelo consumidor, e não ser considerada inferior àquela que pela qual paga.

Mas as netlabels deviam ser auto-suficientes, assim como os músicos e todos os outros que já referi. As cordas da guitarra com que alguém que oferece música irá gravar um novo álbum deveriam ser compradas com incentivos dados por aqueles que gostaram do anterior, parece-me. Este universo labiríntico das netlabels e afins é confuso, e vive – por enquanto – apenas da boa vontade de alguns indivíduos que as sustentam do seu bolso. Se se tornar um fenómeno, talvez aí as coisas mudem. Resta lutar para que isso aconteça.

Colectânea Musical Beats Play Free - [BPF001] VVAA - Oceнь

Beats Play Free (BPF) is an informal platform for promotion of free and free-of-charge music, published according to Creative Commons licences. It started out as a blog, and then evolved into cheerful night events with DJ sets and live acts at different locations in Portugal; it has created a podcast – still in an intermittent phase – and is now making its debut in the release of music compilations.

BPF is also a reunion of several people, from national netlabel creators to musicians and producers, amongst radio broadcasters, bloggers and free-music activists. Different people with different stories and a broad variety of tastes and interests, coming together under a single cause: free music.

On a regular basis, following the four seasons of the year (Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer), BPF will release a compilation assembling the music choices of its members.

The name of each release will always be of the corresponding season, every time in a different language. This first compilation is titled осень (the Russian word for Fall).

“осень” compiles 19 suggestions ranging from older, and somewhat "historic", themes up to some new tracks, fresh out the oven, from electronica to rock, through indietronica, experimental or dub, not only from Portuguese netlabels but also from netlabels around the world. It includes songs and instrumental pieces, as well as local and foreign artists. And it even includes two unreleased tracks.

“осень” reflects the members of this platform’s diversity of experiences and plurality of tastes. In “осень” one can still feel some warm sun, but some raindrops are falling down; one can already feel a chilly wind blowing, ripping the leaves off the trees; it still wears cotton, but it goes around with wool around the neck; it is still colourful, but the shades of grey are settling in. And many of the sound landscapes we will encounter here already carry the melancholic spirit befitting this time of the year, when days become shorter and nights grow long.

O Beats Play Free (BPF) é uma plataforma informal de divulgação da música livre e gratuita editada segundo licenças Creative Commons. Começou como blog, passou a organizar noites animadas por DJ sets e live acts por esse pais fora, criou um podcast - ainda em fase intermitente, e agora estreia-se na edição de colectâneas musicais.

Dele fazem parte vários elementos, desde responsáveis por netlabels nacionais, a músicos e produtores, passando por radialistas, bloggers e activistas da cultura livre. Pessoas diferentes, com histórias distintas e gostos diversos, unidas por uma causa: a música livre.

Sazonalmente, correspondendo a cada uma das estações (Outono/Inverno/Primavera /Verão) do ano, o BPF irá editar uma colectânea reunindo as escolhas musicais dos seus membros.

O nome da colectânea será sempre o da respectiva estação, de cada uma das vezes em diferentes línguas. Esta primeira edição tem o título осень (Outono em russo).

“осень” reúne 19 sugestões, que vão desde temas mais antigos e com alguma história até outros acabadinhos de sair do forno, da electrónica, ao rock, passando pela indietronica, pelo experimentalismo ou pelo dub, de netlabels nacionais e de outras sediadas nos quatro cantos do mundo, cantados e instrumentais, de produção nacional ou não, incluindo, até, dois temaa inéditos.

“осень”, reflecte a diversidade de experiências e a pluralidade de gostos dos membros desta plataforma. Em “осень” ainda brilham alguns raios de sol, mas já caiem uns pingos de chuva, e já se ouve o vento soprar com alguma intensidade, arrancando as folhas das árvores; ainda se veste algodão, mas já se anda com a lã a tiracolo; ainda há alguma cor mas os tons cinzentos ganham espaço; e muitas das paisagens sonoras propostas já carregam muita da melancolia própria desta estação do ano em que os dias encolhem e as noites crescem.

Maximilian Lopp - Disappear [Disco]

Maximilian Lopp has been active in producing music professionally since 1992. In his early years he was very active in producing HipHop with local crews in the Frankfurt region. As he found it increasingly difficult to identify with some people in that genre he re-focussed on trip-hop and clubmusic. Luckily for him the mid-nineties saw the awakening of Drum'n'bass in earnest. Maximilian developed his own approach to electronic music by primarily mixing elements of these three directions. He kicked off the project Blackfish with his first release on the Inside 02 compilation (Poets Club Records). Successful,and busy years followed. Maximilian produced Blackfish's first longplayer Pole Navigation (2001), did Remixes for Compost records , Poets club records and Wohnton (2002). He produced exclusive tracks for companies outside the usual music business, e.g. for the synthesizer giant Waldorf, which released the Zeitlos-Compialtion as a give-away-CD for the Namm-Trade in Chicago 2002. With his partner in music Andi, the other person behind Blackfish, he worked on the second album:“Hidden Shore” was released in 2004 on maxelect records/Edel. In his solo project Maximilian focuses on earthy beats with a jazzy feeling. These beats are sometimes down-,sometimes uptempo but always create a warm and expressive atmosphere. It is hard to describe ML's music in a nutshell – just go and listen for yourself. You will find his tracks on the globally distributed Flooristik 2 and the Down to alpha.earth , samplers. The EP “Rejection” on his own label Blackfish productions marked the beginning of a successful series of EP's bringing Maximilian worldwide recognition and air play on big radio stations. His track ‘slow mo' entered several chill-out-charts around the world, i.e. beatport, i-tunes and trackitdown. His current tracks are published by the hamburg based company Freibank. And – of course – new tracks are in the pipeline. Stay tuned for any news about Maximilian Lopp !

Ya tenia hablado no MrCool Café del netAudio Barcelona 2008 pero nunca es de mas.

Por fin tenemos a la vuelta de la esquina netAudio Barcelona 2008 - Looking Forward -

El lema “looking forward” indica que queremos mirar hacia delante, escudriñar el futuro y adelantarnos a lo que nos viene.

Este año hemos realizado un especial esfuerzo a la hora de programar unas conferencias, que prometen muy interesantes.

El viernes, una clase magistral de ‘Mo’ Sauer (phlow.de) imprescindible no sólo para para músicos y netlabeleros, sino para cualquiera con voluntad de usar la web para difundir su producto. En el taller nos dará las claves de una buena autopromoción mediante internet. Le seguirá la charla debate entre bloggers, especialistas en redes sociales y músicos desarollada por Adolfo Estalella, Carlos Mantero y Defunkid (La Mundial).

Ese mismo viernes por la noche, tendremos la fiesta netAudio, un encuentro más relajado y libre para charlar, encontrar y discutir sobre el mundo de la música e internet con los organizadores, ponentes, colaboradores y todas las personas de este mundillo. Además tendremos pequeños conciertos de artistas de la talla de Alex Martin y sesiones de música de netlabels.

El sábado, dos conferencias más: la primera, tecnológica, con miembros del BMAT y del MTG (Music Tecnology Group de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra), en la que realmente nos dará la impresión de que entramos en un innovador futuro en el que el sonido es el protagonista. La segunda, interesantísima, con miembros de EXGAE, Safe Creative y Creative Commons; quizá pilares de los movimientos de cultura libre y colaborativa.

Y como dice nuestro amigo Applejux, todo por el mismo precio por el que Google ofrece sus servicios…. Es decir, gratis…. ( ¡¡por la patilla!! ).

Transient (Miasmah, Camomille) and Violent Public Disorderaz (Dusted Wax) teamed up and collaborated on this special release here on Fant00m. 4 songs out of one track that Transient made back in 1999 with (for the geeks) Modplucker Software. VPD has a thing for lofi jazzy electronika and fell in love with the 1999 track. Now almost 10 years later Transient works in a whole different way, which can be heard clearly on this release

Mientras una parte de la indústria discográfica intenta adaptarse a una nueva realidad, hay una pequeña parte de la indústria que hace años que ha roto con los modelos convencionales. Este fragmento tiene muy claro como es el presente, como ha cambiado y como actuar en consecuencia. Los medios generalistas hablan de una emergente democratización de la cultura gracias a Internet y las nuevas tecnologías. Esta transformación pide nuevas actitudes, tanto para los consumidores como para los creadores. netAudio Barcelona 2008 son unas jornadas para descubrir como es este nuevo panorama, que nos ofrece y como podemos aprovecharnos de sus características. Todo esto por el mismo precio que Google ofrece sus servicios.

EL CAMINO DEL CORAZÓN de Fernando Sánchez Dragó

Estamos en 1969. Un hombre de treinta y dos años decide emprender un largo viaje a Oriente para buscar allí la sabiduría, la embriaguez, la espiritualidad y la felicidad que Occidente le niega. Deja a sus espaldas, esperándole en la penumbra de una ciudad de provincias, a la mujer con la que ha compartido todos los sueños y las desiluciones de la Década Prodigiosa. El viajero recorre Turquía, Irán, Paquistán, la India, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam y Afganistán. Poco a poco -de lance a lance, de encuentro en encontronazo- su personalidad se transforma. Al mismo tiempo, como falsilla, envoltorio y columna vertebral de este viaje "al fondo de los desconocido para encontrar lo nuevo", Cristina (o Penélope) teje y desteje su incesante trama de amor y desamor con Dionisio (o Ulises). Pero es, como de costumbre, el Destino quien dice la última y sorprendente palabra de esta odisea de nuestro tiempo.

Esta novela quedó finalista del Premio Planeta 1990 y su segunda parte, que todavía no leí 'La prueba del laberinto' consiguió ganar el Premio Planeta 1992.

After a lengthy pause, this octal annual release brings joy and happiness to all. With his skillful production, Kalope brings us another not-so-dark release. This selection of aquatic-themed joyful tracks is a sure summer hit.

This short and infectious ep is a more housey affair for these sun-filled chilled Ibiza mornings. After a mesmerizing ambient opening, In deep sea expedition continues with majestic and deep-influenced spliced chords. It is a deeper exploration of the photic zone. This tom-driven track sees some resemblance to earlier Kalope tracks with its sampled vocals, but reinvents itself with a more complex and playful rhodes theme. Building its groove with shifting chords and echoing flutters, it goes deeper preparing us the next menacing encounters.

Jumping us like a jellyfish in open water, the Droog experience begins. Building its groove around the original reinvented chord progression, it continously explores the depths of original tune. Like a colourful discomedusae, Droog wobbles around like a true deep house chap he is. With its clever reenactment of the main theme with a little touch of reverberation this track builds itself to the high-pitched plucked climax. Like any good track, it abruptly ends this ep. Good subtle edit!

Lemongrass - Beach Affairs (Mole Listening Pearls - Aug. 19th 2008)

With Lemongrass one of the most persistent artists in the soundworlds between Downbeat, Trip-Hop, Nu-Jazz and Drum & Bass grow up a whole decade long. Nearly any Compilation with the finest lounge sound features one of his tracks. The double album “Beach Affairs” offers a detailed overview on the work of Lemongrass on 2CDs: The Highlights of the late albums on Mole Listening Pearls and the very own label of the Voss brothers: Lemongrassmusic.

In spring 1999 Lemongrass has his debut on Mole Listening Pearls: The album "Lumière Obscure" is praised by the press as a “charming compliment to the need of harmony nestling to the couch in the evening and calling after sugar for the ears. …” In 2000 Roland Voss presents the consequent development of his style with “Voyage au centre de la terre". With “Windows” the next feel-good-album follows already in February 2001. Roland Voss stays loyal to himself with his next longplayer “Skydiver”, too and presents mellow vibes, underlayed with big slow-motion-beats. On “Skydiver” he creates weightless rooms of sound, that can only be designed by Lemongrass.

His 6th CD he names “Fleur Solaire“ – sunflower in english – that is released in october 2004 – a title that undertakes. Who put “Fleur Solaire” in the player will see a field of sunflowers whose blossoms are searching the sun like the mirrors of solar cells, constantly following its course to absorb all the energy.

In 2005 the 7th Lemongrass album “Ikebana” follows, that is, at the same time, the first CD on the own label Lemongrassmusic. 2007 the wonderful work “Filmothèque” follows up and with the album "Pour L'Amour" he makes the feat to hold the quality on the level of his previous albums, but to create something new, too. Allowed to love and an enchanting consumption to the ears.

Aquí voy mostrando lo que me gusta, música libre (netaudio) y no libre, libros, sitios web, novedades sobre aparatos que nos hacen la vida mas divertida, como teléfonos, ordenadores, reproductores de mp3 y muchas otras cosas que me gustan.

Soy Portugués, vivo en Valencia España hace un año y medio y por eso puede que mi castellano no sea lo mejor ;) pero es también una forma de entrenar y mejorar. O MrCool Café habla 3 lenguas, la principal es Castellano, pero lo Portugués y el Ingles también hacen parte.
